A Time Such As This

I realized and was wonderfully overwhelmed by some beautiful truth this morning.

I am blessed to get to experience this season, right now.

I am blessed to get to experience this miracle.

I am blessed to experience this invisible, yet completely tangible evidence of BEING the church.

Now, more than ever, I see, really see, how important our “gathering together” really is. How important having a physical home really is. We do need that.

However, that building is completely empty right now. Dark.

And yet, “the church” is shining brighter than ever before. We are not a building. We use buildings and they are a blessing but when that physical place is removed from us for a time, I am so blessed and encouraged to see what remains. What remains is a people. HIS people, uniting in love and hope and faith, care for our fellow brothers and sisters, care for the world and all who are in it.

I see the vine and the branches. (John 15) He is the vine. And he exists outside the four walls of a building. We are the branches. And I see us growing, moving, stretching. My prayer is that every branch would continue to grow and stretch so that all would be touched. That every single person feeling alone, isolated or afraid would be reached by a child of God. Would be told they are not alone. Encouraged that there is still a God on his throne and he loves us all.

Our physical churches matter. And when we get to go back it will be a huge blessing and a celebration! I look forward, with great anticipation, to that day!

But until then as the people of Jesus, we get to walk with Jesus like his first disciples did. Meeting the needs we see along the way. Being and bringing the church to people like never before.

We’ve all just become missionaries in a foreign land.

But our miraculous God is with us.

We can lean into him. Press into his word. Let it fill us up to overflow and then share. Reach.

Be the branch that finds the lonely and hurting during this time.

If we know our neighbors, let’s them give them a call, send them a text and make sure they know they are not alone.

If we don’t know our neighbors this is a great time to reach out.

Write a note and leave it in their mailbox. Give them your phone number and just let them know you are praying and you are here if there is anything you can do in this season.

If you are connected to your neighbors, suggest and organize a virtual block party! Zoom, Google Hangout...there are so many great platforms to choose from!

Have a “through the fence” hangout with a neighbor! My dog does that all the time!

Let’s get creative as we get reaching. We have been called for such a time as this to BE THE CHURCH!

“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” Matthew 16:18

"How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" Romans 10:15

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
